Current state of Artificial Intelligence in Animatronic Robotics
As of this post, artificial intelligence in animatronic robotics is, as far as we know, very limited. “AI” has become a huge buzz word for almost every industry on the planet. They public’s use of ChatGPT has been both incredibly helpful while also showing a potential disaster in development. Right now, most people use AI in multi-modal situations (text, pictures, videos), but not in physical robotic interactions. This will likely change very soon…
What’s Coming
From some demonstrations by companies like Engineered Arts “AMECA” and Garner Holt’s Abraham Lincoln we are already seeing artificial intelligence in animatronic robotics. AMECA is especially remarkable as it is using near real-time unscripted interactions with people using software like ChatGPT. The pushes out a new mode of interaction with AI: a animatronic robot that is physically present, looking at you, shaking your hand, etc. The reality is animatronics and robotics are finally merging now that we can give them a “brain” of their own! Companies like TESLA are already pushing the edge of AI by running massive training models on their custom hardware “DOJO” supercomputer. They are also the only company prepared for mass production of humanoid robots named “OPTIMUS”.
When will this happen?
If the insanely growing speed that AI systems are growing is any indicator, artificial intelligence in animatronic robotics in widespread use may happen sooner than you think. The smartest people in the world incorrectly predicted how long AI would take to reach its current level by decades! This is not a simple Moore’s Law at play. It is more exponential than almost everybody expected. Buckle up!
