Animatronics for Theaters

Theater Experience Turned to 11!

In the world of stage productions, the art of storytelling has evolved beyond traditional methods, thanks to the enchanting realm of animatronics for theaters. From huge gorillas to giant puppets, theatrical productions have pushed audiences into experiences never before possible.

Some Animatronics for Stage Examples

One of the most famous stage animatronics of late is “King Kong – Alive on Broadway”. The King Kong animatronic was created by Global Creatures and incorporates unique technology. Much of the volume of their creatures is actually air! Large muscles on Kong and their huge dinosaurs are actually ingenious air bladders. They move extremely realistically while requiring just a tiny fraction of force compared to other animatronics. Since 1997 “The Lion King” on NYC’s Broadway has used basic animatronics and creative puppetry to tell a fantastic story to all ages. Even in the University of Utah’s Ballet Department production of “The Snowmaiden” huge animatronic puppets were designed and engineered such that, even though over 6 meters (roughly 20 feet) tall, they could be puppeteered by 90 pound (roughly 40 kg) ballet dancers!

And then…?

That’s up to you! There are many creative souls out there, and perhaps you are the one that can push animatronics for theaters to the next level. We have talked in previous blogs about advances in artificial intelligence. That may enter into this niche of animatronics maybe enabling live interaction with an audience, breaking the “fourth wall”!
